Mobile Glass Crusher
| Local solutions to local problems. That's what Yampa Valley Recycles and the City of Steamboat Springs did when Waste Management notified the community they would no longer be able to accept glass as part of their recycling program. With the help of the Office of Energy Conservation, U.S. Forest Service, Yampa Valley Community Foundation, Routt County, and private donations, we were able to obtain funding to create a local end use for glass. Connell Resources provided the location, fabrication of the crusher, and utilization of the product as an in-kind contribution, and Waste Management provided free collection and transportation to Connell Resources as part of their in-kind contribution. Everyone came together to create a workable solution. |
| Today Waste Management is able to accept all colors of glass jars and bottles, and Connell Resources crushes approximately 500 to 600 tons per year. Connell Resources has also developed a number of uses for the end product. These include pipe bedding for trenches, structural road fill (with other materials to be placed on top of the crushed glass), aggregate road mix (for use in roads and parking lots where asphalt will be the final surface), asphalt mix (for use in asphalt where another layer will cover), and concrete flo-fill for trench or structural backfill. | ![]() |
